Today I was reminded of a funny story because my dear friend Becky became a fan of "I will go slightly out of my way to step on a crunchy-looking leaf" on facebook.
Apparently this practice is common. I always thought people were giving me funny looks whenever I zig-zagged slightly to step on leaves. Lol, thank you facebook group for helping me feel normal.
Back to the reason I started this post. One day I was walking through the parking lot at my work, headed to my car. For those of you who remember this post, you'll recall that this is an underground parking lot. (That should have been my first signal that something was not right). (You know, (yes I am doing a parenthesis right after a parenthesis. And yes I am doing a parenthesis inside a parenthesis. This is how my mind works. Lots of sidetracks) I've had some not so great experiences in that parking lot).
Try #2 at getting to the point. =) I was walking to my car. I saw a leaf on the ground. I thought it must have fallen off someone's car. Or maybe I didn't think, I just got excited to see a leaf I could stomp. There were no other leaves nearby. I had my foot in the air, ready to give this leaf a joyful stomp to see what it was made of, when it fought back. It jumped! I let out a yelp (and probably wet myself a little). Then I took a closer look and realized it was a katydid. Not a leaf.
Thank heavens it didn't let me stomp it.

Oh you are too nice! After seeing something like that AND being startled by it, I would've stepped on it for sure. Call me cruel, but I don't feel too bad for killing bugs and things of the like. Sad, I know... :)
ReplyDeleteI thought I was the only one that went out of my way to step on leaves! :)
