The best and the worst

This is big. Today I saw Ben Stein. He was standing right in front of me. I was speechless; I didn't know what to say, or if I should say anything. All I could do was stand there and grin. And then, he looked at me. He smiled and walked away. He was wearing a suit and sneakers, and that's when I knew. It was the highlight of my week.

I guess I should tell you where I was. I volunteered to help with the MPI (meeting professionals international) conference which is going on this weekend. As a volunteer I get to wear a boy scout-esque shirt, and a super sweet smokey the bear hat!! Woot! So I was at the Salt Lake airport holding a sign to direct conference attendees to their shuttles. He looked at my sign, looked at me, and smiled. I'm confident that he smiled at me because he saw my beautiful smile (not because I looked like a park ranger... :).

Secondly, I'm giving away the punch line with this picture... Probably the worst thing that has ever happened to me happened this week.

I work downtown salt lake. I park in an underground parking garage that is right in the center of the action. Well, as I walked to my car after work the other night I noticed that my car was leaking some kind of fluid. In fact, it was a lot of fluid, I was a little concerned. So I did the normal thing and touched my finger in it and smelled it to see if it was water or antifreeze. It didn't really smell like anything. I checked out where the liquid was coming from, and strangely it looked like it was coming from right under the bumper... I know cars pretty well, and the bumper shouldn't be leaking.

It wasn't until I popped the hood that I realized what it was. (some of you have already guessed). As I stood in the front of my car and opened the hood, I noticed an empty jack daniel's whiskey bottle on the passenger side of my car. Then it all came so clearly. I realized the liquid was slightly yellow, and it was coming from the front of my car, not under the car. SOME FREAKING BUM PEED NEXT TO MY CAR AND I FREAKING PUT MY FINGER IN IT!!!!! Oh my gosh, I almost vomited. Luckily I had some hand sanitizer, so I used it, drove home with my palms, and sanitized everything thoroughly when I got home.

I'm usually compassionate and understanding toward the homeless, but that has changed.
