I’m glad for the iPad

Lol.. That may win the award for corniest title ever…

How many of you have seen the grand presentation of Apple’s newest edition? (frankly, if you haven’t, you might try looking above yourself to see if you are under a rock).

I’ve already got quite a few ideas brewing in my head about how useful the iPad will be.

  1. For organization. Calendar, contacts, notes, etc.. No more crappy little notes written on a gum wrapper.
  2. For use as a reader. Not only can you download books to the iPad just like the Kindle or any other reader, you can also browse the web which gives you access to Google Books, and fantastic blogs.
  3. As many of you know, I’m a huge fan of a certain recipe website. With the iPad, I will be able to mount it on its cute little stand and have easy viewing access to my online recipe as I cook. (And we all know I’m going to be cooking up a storm this year. I’m sure the storm will kick in sometime soon…). A web-connected viewer will help me in my business of saving trees.
  4. Wandering. Of course the iPad is GPS enabled. You can also purchase an iPad that is 3G enabled, so it will work most of the places you have cell phone service. This will be useful for looking up restaurants, stores, gas stations…
  5. Travelling. It has a pretty cool 10 hour battery life. This will make it handy to use when you are on a long drive, or a flight and want to watch a movie on something larger than an iPod, but you need a battery that lasts longer than a normal laptop.

Arguments have sprouted that claim that the iPad is just a large iPhone, or iPod Touch, but a lame excuse for a laptop. I agree, but I’m still excited. I really want an iPhone or an iPod touch for the App capabilities, but I don’t own either yet. And our laptop’s battery life is slowly disappearing, so it isn’t as mobile as it should be.

I can’t wait until the iPad is available for purchase. (wi-fi edition in march, and the wi-fi + 3G edition in april. …in case you were wondering)
