Blogging

That is such a funny word. I'm not much of a blogger just yet, but a lot of people I know seem to rave about it. They love it, they blog all the time. They are connected to all their friends and family through blogs. Well, I can see how that probably works out wonderfully, but I'm still questioning whether anyone actually reads my blog. If you are reading this, leave me a comment and let me know. I'm just curious.

I have mixed feelings about the idea of staying in touch with family and friends through blogs. First of all, whatever happened to calling or visiting people? I'll admit that I am the worst when it comes to calling old compadres, but it's too bad that society has moved to this electronic way of connecting. Okay, let me clarify what I mean. I think that if people email or comment back and forth to connect, that is just fine. However, considering myself a bad offender of this practice, you don't really connect with someone when you are just another invisible person reading a blog, status, comments, or looking at their pictures. Does that make sense?

I am going to make a renewed effort, and I encourage you to join me, in trying to actually communicate with people. It is much better to ask someone directly about their life than to hear it through the grapevine or ask a third party. I'm going to work on my one-on-one communication with my loved ones, and become an active reader/commenter instead of a silent one.

  1. Yes, I read this and have also thought how strange it is that I don't know who or if friends look at what I share. Feel free to call me back sometime.

  2. Okay, so I meant to comment like two days ago but got destracted before I could post anything. Yes, I definitely read your blog! I also love that you and I get to catch up in real life too, not just over the web. I admire your goal of keeping up with friends in real life - doing more than just checking in on them via the web. I have a long list of friends who I need to call and meet up with and I'm so embarrassed to say that I haven't yet! Great post and thank you for sharing your thoughts!
