Some of you may ask yourselves, what does Amber do anyway? I know, I talk about how I’m so busy, but really, what do I do? Well, let me tell you a little about myself.
I am a Speech Communication graduate from the University of Utah. What can you do with that degree you ask? …I’m still trying to figure that one out myself. When I graduated, a recruiter found my resume and said she was trying to fill an opening as a receptionist at an insurance firm, or the Economic Development Corporation of Utah. I actually thought the insurance job would be better because I would learn about that mysterious thing called insurance, but she said the people at EDCUtah were really nice, so I decided to interview there. I got the job, but decided I would only stay a couple months until I found something I really wanted to do. Nearly 3 years later, I’m still there.

EDCUtah is a private non-profit organization commissioned to grow quality jobs and capital investment in the state of Utah. If you’ve driven through Lehi recently, you may have seen Adobe’s billboard that says, “This is the place, literally.” Well, Adobe had a bunch of jobs that needed a location, and we convinced them that those jobs should come here. My organization is the group who talks to companies like that (who are looking to expand or relocate) and we are basically the sales people for Utah. We tell them about our amazing labor force, our low costs of doing business, and among other things, our fabulous quality of life. The outdoor recreation opportunities in this state are second to none in my eyes.
Okay, that’s a lot of words, but what do I really do? I am currently the Business Development Coordinator for the Business Development team at EDCUtah. I assist the VP of BD in making sure everything runs smoothly on our team of 13 as we are the group who interacts with all these companies (we currently have around 180 companies actively looking at relocating or expanding to our great state). Some of the things I oversee are: I am the administrator for our CRM, Salesforce.com (and I’m in love with it), I maintain all our reports, I manage all incoming leads, I prepare presentations, I help with seating arrangements, I assist with arranging things when we have a client coming to town, I help optimize the technology in our office, and I am an efficiency machine. I LOVE to make things as simple, organized, efficient, and running like clockwork as I can.
My job is definitely exhausting at times, but I do enjoy what I do. I learn all sorts of neat stuff every day, and meet all sorts of people.
So, if you have any questions, or are wondering if there are resources in Utah to help your business, I’d be happy to help.
Shout out to EDCUtah! Woot woot!
