I don’t know if any of you followed the renovation of this building (formerly the Packard Library and Hansen Planetarium in Downtown Salt Lake). I must admit that I am floored by the amazing work Big-D Construction did.

OC Tanner purchased the building from Salt Lake City after the Hansen Planetarium moved out (when it turned into the Clark Planetarium at Gateway). OC Tanner proceeded to do a massive restoration on the building including tearing out the insides of the building, doing seismic upgrades, digging out the basement a few feet, and I think they installed underground parking.

After the Hansen Planetarium moved out

I am most amazed at the staircase. Please note the beautiful old staircase (and light fixtures) in the following picture.

Now look at what happened during the renovation of the building.

Clearly, everything is gone from the inside of this building… However, notice the original staircase in the after construction pictures.

Absolutely gorgeous. How in the world do you remove a staircase and put it back? Wow.
