Resoluting in a New Year

2010 How many of you set new years resolutions? I used to set them when I was little, but as I got older I stopped. I didn't like the idea of setting some big goal(s) just once a year that inevitably I wouldn't keep.

I do consider myself to be a goal setter (great at setting goals, but following and maintaining them is a little bit different), but setting goals just once a year wasn't my piece of pie in the past. This year, however, I have quite a few significant goals that I am ready to work toward, and the timing was right, so I'm considering them new years resolutions. Here are a few:

  1. To get rid of my tardy habits. This is a huge one for me. I can't remember many times when I was a person who was consistently on-time. I've even been awarded the title of "Miss Truancy" (lol, remember that one Becky? =)). I'm going to change it once and for all.
  2. To blog on a more regular basis. I love how blogging keeps me in touch with people. It's been a lot of fun so far, so I want to be more diligent about doing it on a regular basis.
  3. To cook 'real' meals at least twice a week. My definition of 'real' may differ from yours. For example, if I have to cut vegetables for a meal, it's real. If the 'meal' involves 2 and a half minutes in the microwave, it's not real. =)
  4. To get physical activity at least twice a week. I know that at a minimum you should exercise at least three times a week, preferably more in the five times a week range. I'm planning on exercising more like five days a week, but I set my goal for two so that it is very attainable, and I will feel good about accomplishing it.
  5. To take more time to get dressed up. This goes along with being on-time. I want to give myself more time to get looking great rather than spend the bare minimum of time needed getting ready.
  6. To keep our apartment cleaner. I want our home to be guest friendly at all times. When I'm a mom, I hope that our house is the one that all the kids in the neighborhood hang out at. I also hope that everyone knows they'll always be welcomed in and that there will always be cookies on hand. I want to work toward this ideal now by keeping our apartment guest friendly.

I intended to start all these goals January 1, but then I came down with an irritating cold that threw me off my game. So I'm giving myself a week off and starting next Monday. =)

What are your resolutions? Are you making any life changing goals this year, or vetoing the whole idea? Do you have any tips for keeping goals especially if you mess up once or twice? How do you keep yourself accountable, or revisit goals that have fallen off the radar?
