*Drum Roll……*
TA DA! My ottoman is finished! I am so excited I feel like a little kid with a new fish. =)
It took a lot of blood, sweat, and tears.. Well, I did bleed, I definitely sweated (the classroom was VERY warm), but I didn’t cry. =)
I still have to paint the feet. I was thinking about painting them black. Any suggestions? (the backside of the each foot has old stain on it right now)
I took some pictures of half finished ottomans that were left in the classroom to show just how far this baby has come.
First, we made the wood frames. Second we stretched and stapled the burlap strips. Then we sewed our springs to the strips. The next step you can’t see. We had to tie down the springs very strategically so that they were rounded, to give the ottoman it’s lovely shape.
After we tied the springs, we covered the whole thing with burlap, and sewed the springs to the burlap. (the example in the picture did a little more sewing than needed). Following the layer of burlap, we put a layer of thick cotton batting (notice the white chunk of it in the picture above). Then we stapled down a layer of muslin to hold the cotton down.
After that, we did one more layer of batting (nice polyester batting this time), and then our final layer of fabric. We sewed our welting to the bottom layer of fabric, stapled it on, and finished ‘er off!
I was beaming with pride after I finished it. I still had extra time left in the class, so I just sat and enjoyed my lovely ottoman. And today I brought it to work. =) I spend a lot of time sitting, so why not get the most out of my lovely new toy? =)) Yes, I got some funny questions in the elevator on the way up. Lol…
